When it comes to central heating installations we have a wealth of experience. Our Gas Safe engineers are experts at installing any part or all of a central heating and hot water system. This includes boilers, radiators, cylinders and room thermostats etc.
So what can you expect from Alliance Plumbing and Heating when you are thinking about installing a new central heating system?
First, you need to make an appointment for one of our Gas Safe registered estimators to visit, in order to provide you with a free no obligation quote. You can do this by calling 020 8226 6556 where one of our helpful call centre staff will arrange this for you.
Second, the estimator will arrive and spend about 30 to 60 minutes. The estimator will carry out an energy assessment of your property and your current heating system. This is done to ensure that whatever is recommended will save you as much as possible on your heating bills. They will then talk you through your options and answer any of your questions in plain English.
Third, in some cases your estimator may arrange for a surveyor to visit your home and assess its suitability for the heating solution he has recommended.
Fourth, once you have understood the quotation and would like to go ahead, simply reply by e-mail, fax or via the My Estimates tab on this website and you will be contacted within 24 hours to arrange a convenient time for us to carry out the installation.
Fifth, one of our highly trained Gas Safe registered engineers will arrive with all the materials needed to install your new central heating system to Gas Safe registered standards. Their work is carried out to the highest safety levels and with as little possible disruption to you and your home. In addition, our engineers know the importance of leaving your home as clean and as tidy as they found it. They also pride themselves on being friendly and polite.
Sixth, all our newly installed central heating systems come with between 1 and 5 years warranty for the various parts. So you can relax knowing that all parts and labour are fully taken care.
Ventilation
It is very important that you have your heating system regularly checked by one of our Alliance engineers as inadequate ventilation can lead to a fatality.
If your central heating system has inadequate ventilation, then there is a danger that harmful gas such as carbon monoxide will enter your home leading to serious injury, or in the worst case scenario, a fatal outcome. That is why it is vital that you have your heating system regularly checked by an Alliance Gas Safe registered engineer to ensure your central heating is safe.
Have your gas appliances checked at least every 12 months by an Alliance engineer to make sure they are working correctly – including safety controls, flueing and ventilation.
After your Alliance engineer has checked your appliances and identified any deficiencies, he will be happy to explain the work required and provide you with a free quote.
As well as having your appliances regularly checked, you can also fit a carbon monoxide alarm, which will alert you to the presence of this potentially lethal gas. Alliance recommends the officially approved and Kite marked to the latest European Standard, the Honeywell EN50291, which is also approved by the Gas Safe Register.
Key tips on ventilation
Never use a gas appliance if you think it is not working properly. Signs to look out for include yellow or orange flames (except for fuel-effect fires which display this colour flame), soot or stains around the appliance and pilot lights which frequently blow out.
Never cover an appliance or block the convection air vents
Never block or obstruct any fixed ventilation grilles or air bricks
Never block or cover outside flues
All gas consumers are advised to have their chimney swept regularly and to have appliances checked for safety every 12 months by one of our Gas Safe Registered Alliance engineers.
There are many things you can do to be more energy efficient and reduce your heating bills. Just by taking simple measures, you could see a real difference in your energy consumption. The government has recognised that the following products will help you save energy.
Room and cylinder thermostats
Programmable thermostats
Programmer
Thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs)
Also, if you have a gravity system, then consider converting to a full pumped system.
A room thermostat will help reduce energy waste and cut your heating bills as the thermostat will turn the heating off when the desired room temperature is reached.
Your Alliance gas engineer can supply and fit a programmable wireless room thermostat that will control room temperature accurately. The wireless technology means that there will be no unsightly wires running across your room. A cylinder thermostat can also be installed to control how hot your water gets.
A programmer is one of the most important parts of your central heating system, as it tells your boiler when to start running and when to stop. This will help to reduce energy waste and CO2 emissions, as well as cut your heating bills.
Fully pumped systems pump the water from your boiler to the water tank so it heats up a lot quicker – and because your boiler runs for less time it could save you money. It also allows independent control of your hot water and central heating as most old gravity systems suffer from a lack of control of the water tank, resulting in wasted energy.
By following these simple steps, you will be able to reduce your energy bills further:
Time your heating to go off 30 minutes before you leave the house, and come on again 30 minutes before you are due to return.
Installing a cylinder thermostat could save you up to £20 and 110 Kg of CO2 a year*
By installing TRV’s you could save around £10 a year and around 45Kg of CO2 a year*
Fitting the correct heating controls could typically save you around 17% off your heating bill. Plus installing a condensing boiler along with a full set of heating controls you could save as much as 40% off your heating fuel bill which could equate to around £275 a year
