Manufacturers recommend you get your boiler serviced every year to make sure it stays in good working order.
More importantly, a faulty or poorly maintained appliances can leak carbon monoxide, poisoning from which can be fatal. It is therefore important that you get your boiler and gas appliances inspected and serviced regularly, to make sure they are working as safely and efficiently as possible.
A Gas Safe registered Alliance heating engineer will carry out your boiler service and will typically check the following during a full boiler service.
A visual check to ensure your boiler still meets current standards.
Then once the boiler has been fired any working faults will be identified.
The boiler casing will be removed to check all the main boiler components e.g. burner, heat exchanger, main injector, spark/sensor probe.
The gas engineer will also check to ensure the flue terminals are unobstructed and internal flue components are sealed properly.
The gas valve will be adjusted to check that the burner is combusting efficiently and properly. Inside casing surfaces will be cleaned together will any boiler parts where necessary.
A gas tightness test will be conducted to ensure no leaks. Finally the boiler casing will be put back on and checked to ensure that it is properly sealed
Please bear in mind that not all boilers are the same and what is carried out in a service can vary, especially for older conventional systems.
